The 14 Leadership Traits and 11 Principles, developed by Southeast Academy Military and Law Enforcement High School, are the foundation of this program. To help motivate Jr. Cadets, they will earn their Army Combat Uniform if they memorize all 14 traits. Leadership is one of the most important concepts Jr. Cadets will learn. WLP's traits are proven guidelines that will enhance their ability to be effective leaders. This program also focuses on soft skills for leadership development, for example:
  • Effective communication skills
  • Teamwork
  • Dependability
  • Adaptability
  • Conflict resolution
  • Flexibility
  • Problem-solving
  • Research
  • Creativity
  • Work ethic
  • Integrity
The use of the leadership traits in the curriculum help Jr. Cadets increase their soft skills. "Soft skills are the personal attributes, personality traits, inherent social cues, and communication abilities needed for success on the job. Soft skills characterize how a person interacts in his or her relationships with others.
Unlike hard skills that are learned, soft skills are similar to emotions or insights that allow people to “read” others. These are much harder to learn, at least in a traditional classroom." (https://www.thebalancecareers.com)
